Popstar Pixie Lott was one of several musical celebrities to meet Girlguding Scotland members following an exclusive pop concert for the charity at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow.

Eve Macdonald was one of the lucky youngsters who got to meet the star, who performed in front of 8,000 Girlguides at a concert that also featured Jess Glynne, Louisa Johnson, John Newman, JP Cooper, Birdy, Five After Midnight and host Cel Spellman.

I loved my time as a Brownie and it's brilliant to see Girlguiding Scotland is still giving girls a space to be themselves, have fun and reach for the stars - Pixie Lott

As well as enjoying live performances of some of the biggest hits of the summer, some of Girlguiding Scotland's junior reporters were able to grill the artists who inspire them.

Pixie Lott said: "I loved being part of Tartan Gig - Girlguiding Scotland's biggest ever pop concert. As a former Brownie, I'm really proud to be part of this unique event. From playing games to camping, I loved my time as a Brownie and it's brilliant to see Girlguiding Scotland is still giving girls a space to be themselves, have fun and reach for the stars. Today really felt like a fantastic day for girl power."

Jess Glynne said: “I am so excited to be part of Girlguiding Scotland’s biggest ever pop concert, celebrating being a strong woman. It was so inspiring to see so many girls coming together to sing, dance and have fun.

“Girlguiding Scotland is all about inspiring girls to aim high and be bold and I’m really proud to be involved in it. My advice to all the girls out there is to not let worrying about what other people think stop you from being yourself and doing what you love!

“My own experience has taught me you need a thick skin, but if you work hard and believe in yourself, no one can take that away from you.”

Caitlyn Ogg, 15, of the Turiff Guides, was one of the lucky young members chosen to interview the stars live on the big day She said: “Tartan Gig was such an amazing experience. I loved seeing some of my favourite acts performing and even getting to interview them and ask them all my burning questions.

“I love being a member of Girlguiding Scotland because you get so many amazing opportunities that you might never get to try otherwise – like seeing an exclusive pop concert with all your friends."

Sue Walker, Girlguiding Scotland’s lead volunteer, added: “At Girlguiding Scotland we’re all about offering girls amazing experiences in a safe girl-only space and what could be more unforgettable that going to your first gig with all your friends? Tartan Gig is just one example of how Girlguiding Scotland is moving with the times and responding to what girls want without losing what makes us unique.”
