A pop-up shop has returned to Aberdeen to raise money for a social care charity.

The store, on the city's George Street, opened on Monday and will trade until Saturday, selling clothes, books and DVDs in aid of the Cornerstone Independent Forum (CIF).

Cornerstone provides care and support services for adults and young people who live with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and other support needs.

Its independent forum is a platform through which service users can comment on the charity’s work and suggest improvements and changes.

This event is a fantastic way for us to raise funds for and awareness of our hugely important IF group.

The money raised by the temporary shop will go towards a £30,000 mini bus for the charity, which will enable people to access everyday activities in Aberdeen and the surrounding area.

To date, £22,000 has been raised towards the target and the charity hopes the shop can build on last year’s takings of £2000 to help them reach the finish line.

Malcolm Gray, Cornerstone service manager, said: “This now annual event is a fantastic way for us to raise funds for and awareness of our hugely important IF group.

“People we support will be doing their bit by volunteering in the shop, so as well as a great fundraising opportunity, this is a really excellent way for them to develop valuable skills and experience.

“Everyone will also be wearing t-shirts with our IF logo and slogan – Yes We Can – which also helps those we support feel like they are part of the team.”

Cornerstone was founded in 1980 and now supports around 2000 people each year across 18 Scottish local authority areas.
