Organisations from across Britain received a boost last year thanks to the People’s Postcode Lottery.

More than 900 groups shared in excess of £8.2 million which was allocated as part of the charity lottery scheme.

The funding was awarded through the lottery’s small grants programme, which invites charities and community groups to apply for up to £20,000 for specific projects.

Clara Govier, head of charities at People's Postcode Lottery, said: "It's incredible that players are supporting hundreds of deserving projects in communities across Great Britain. 2017 has been an amazing year and we are looking forward to funding even more brilliant causes in 2018.

“The small grants programme has two funding rounds each year and we encourage local groups to apply."

The Scottish Wildlife Trust is just one of the organisations that has received backing from the People's Postcode Lottery, having gained £4,884,473 in support over the last decade.

Linda Rosborough, chair of the Scottish Wildlife Trust, said: "Continued help from players of People's Postcode Lottery has allowed the trust to achieve some amazing things over the past 10 years, including protecting breeding ospreys and reintroducing beavers to Scotland.

"Over the next decade, ongoing support from players will help us continue to champion the cause of wildlife through our campaigning work, demonstrate best practice through practical conservation and innovative partnerships, and inspire people to take positive action through its education and engagement activities."

The new year brings even more opportunities for charities to apply for grants of up to £20,000 through the programme: which is run through the People's Postcode Trust, Postcode Local Trust and Postcode Community Trust. There will be two funding rounds in 2018, which are expected to open next month and in August, with further information available online.
