PPE drive for frontline staff

MedSupplyDriveUKScotland is looking for urgent donations of equipment that can support staff through the coronavirus pandemic

A volunteer group of NHS doctors, medical students and allies has launched an urgent appeal for personal protective equipment (PPE) to be donated to Scottish hospitals, GP hubs, hospices and care homes.

MedSupplyDriveUKScotland (MSDUK) is focused on locating and accessing the PPE that industries and businesses across the country may have, that they would be prepared to donate to frontline healthcare staff.

This could include masks, goggles, visors, protective suits and other protective clothing, gloves, overshoes and hand sanitiser.

Donations can be made to the delivery entrance at local healthcare facilities or get in touch by using #DonatePPEScotland on social media or email scotland@medsupplydrive.org.uk.

Industries that might be able to provide PPE include research labs, construction companies, colleges and universities, the beauty industry, electronics / machinery / engineering manufacturers and TV film production. Whilst there are many different types and levels of PPE, it is crucial for healthcare staff to receive as much as possible and for medical staff to decide what they can or cannot use. Collection of equipment can be arranged if necessary.

MSDUK Scotland has adopted a strategic approach to the national appeal by harnessing volunteers to contact businesses and collate information on a specific Google Map, which shows hospitals or medical centres, as well as businesses that have already been contacted, in Scotland. This is central to forward planning and a useful tool if a specific area or hospital has an urgent need.
