National Trust sees visitor numbers rise year-on-year

This Easter was the busiest on record for the National Trust for Scotland’s (NTS) heritage properties.

The conservation charity, which has been working with Cadbury for the past seven years to run Easter egg trails, said just over 27,000 children took part in the events at 45 places across Scotland, up 10% on last year.

A successful Easter is a great start to the season

The busiest properties were Culzean castle in Ayrshire, and Crathes castle, garden and estate in Aberdeenshire.

NTS marketing manager Carly Lamberty, who coordinates Easter events for the charity, said Easter has been growing every year for the trust.

“Over the Easter weekend, we had our busiest four days ever with over 100,000 visitors across Scotland coming along to get involved in the family fun in the sunshine.”

The sunshine was also good news for ice cream sales – at Culzean alone 7,040 scoops of ice cream were served up over the weekend.

Lamberty added: “A successful Easter is a great start to the season - families know that the trust is the place to play in 2014, and of course, all of these events generate vital income to support our conservation work.”
