Five national voluntary organisations are getting together for the first time at special national event

In a Scottish youth work first, young leaders from across Scotland are coming together to bust some of the myths around the sector, share ideas about leadership and discuss issues such as what makes a fairer Scotland.

Over 100 young people will attend the national Strive event on 28 November in Stirling as part of the Young People Taking the Lead programme.

It is a joint initiative between Boys’ Brigade, Girls’ Brigade Scotland, Girlguiding Scotland, Scouts Scotland and Youth Scotland.

It promises to be an exciting event bringing together young people from across Scotland who are committed to developing their leadership skills and connections

The event has been organised by 10 young people as part of a cross-organisational Young Advisory Group and is funded by CashBack for Communities.

Jo Macdonald, CashBack senior development worker at Youth Scotland, said the young people from the five partners will learn about each organisation and bust youth work myths and common misconceptions using a peer led approach.

This is the first event of its kind and the young leaders involved are excited about the sharing of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm from the different organisations.

“The Young Advisory Group have worked hard to come together to organise Strive,” Macdonald told TFN.

“It promises to be an exciting event bringing together young people from across Scotland who are committed to developing their leadership skills and connections.

“Young People Taking the Lead is a programme which reflects the partners’ grow your own philosophy and the young leaders involved are part of the next generation of volunteers who enable the cogs of youth work to keep turning.”

Strive will also include a keynote speech from Aileen Campbell, minister for children and young people, as well as training workshops for young leaders and several discussion and feedback sessions.
