Children and families charity Circle appeals for help to put on Christmas parties for disadvantaged children with the help of David Tennant

Scottish charity Circle has launched its Christmas campaign with the help of former Doctor Who star David Tennant.

The charity, which works with families in deprived communities across Scotland, is today on #GivingTuesday, asking for donations to allow it to host Christmas parties for marginalised children and families.

A global day of giving, #GivingTuesday is running in the UK for the first time this year. It falls directly after Black Friday and Cyber Monday and ask people to carry out one simple charity act and it is hoped that #GivingTuesday in the UK will replicate the successes of the US, where charities have seen a huge spike in donations on the day.

Circle is using the exposure of the day to run a social media campaign to raise awareness of its work and has an exciting video clip highlighting the campaign, featuring its patron, a former Doctor, David Tennant.

“#Giving Tuesday highlights the importance of giving back and allows people to reflect upon the consumerism that can often overshadow community spirit at Christmas,” Liz Dahl, chief executive of Circle said.

“This year we are hoping to raise money to allow Circle to organise Christmas celebrations for the children and families supported across Scotland. We’re delighted to be involved with Giving Tuesday and hope that the movement continues to grow next year.”

Those who are interested in joining Circle’s #GivingTuesday initiative can share/retweet campaign materials over the coming days and encourage people to donate on Twitter and Facebook.
