Sight loss radio station changes its name

Insight Radio is now known as a RNIB Connect Radio.

Insight Radio, the Glasgow-based station run by sight loss charity RNIB, has changed its name to RNIB Connect Radio.

The change has been made to reflect the station’s new strategy of trying to build a stronger community of blind and partially sighted people, their families, friends, carers and supporters who can connect with and support each other.

“Listeners can still expect the same high-quality programming from RNIB Connect Radio with all their favourite shows and presenters,” studio manager Yvonne Milne told TFN.

“They'll continue to hear a broad range of information, interviews and features highlighting the interests, challenges and aspirations of the RNIB Connect community.

"The only difference will be that going forward we'll be able to connect more blind and partially sighted people and share more stories within the community."

The station was launched in in 2007 as Europe's first radio station for blind and partially sighted people.

It reaches 135,000 listeners and also broadcasts from satellite studios in Edinburgh, London and Cardiff.

Many of its producers and presenters, themselves, are blind or partially sighted.

Listeners can tune in to RNIB Connect Radio on Freeview channel 730, 101FM in Glasgow, on-line and on smart devices. Anyone can listen to, repeat and download the weekly features via rnibconnectradio.org.uk.
