Social Bite sandwich shop offers dream prize in return for £5 donation

A social enterprise sandwich shop in Edinburgh is offering the chance to win an intimate dinner with none other than Oscar winning actor George Clooney.

The Ocean's 11 star will be coming to the capital on 12 November after being invited by Social Bite owner Josh Littlejohn to speak at the Scottish Business Awards and see first-hand the work the social enterprise does to tackle homelessness.

Amazingly Clooney, who has won two Academy Awards for Syriana and Argo, said yes and it was arranged with deals site Itison to offer the public the chance to dine with him in return for a £5 donation.

Social Bite owner Josh Littlejohn said: “It’s a fantastic honour to be bringing one of the world’s most famous men to Scotland and it is amazing that he is supporting Social Bite.

“He may even join the team and lend a helping hand behind the counter. For many of our team who until recently lived on the streets, this is a really amazing thing to look forward to.

“I called up his charity partner John Prendergast and George was open to it. He liked the idea of Social Bite and while he is here he’ll also talk with people like Sir Tom Hunter about his charity Not On Our Watch which he co-founded with Brad Pitt and Matt Damon.”

The proceeds from the Itison sales will go to both Not On Our Watch and Social Bite.

Social Bite, which was founded in 2012 to employ local homeless people, previously teamed up with Itison before Christmas and raised £181,000 from members of the public donating cash to buy meals for homeless people.

All you have to do to be in with a chance of winning is visit the site and donate £5.

As well as a place at the meal which will be attended by just 10 people the winner will also win an overnight stay for two at 5* Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh, a spa treatment each at the Guerlain Spa plus chauffeur driven transport.

A runner up will also win a meet and greet with George and tickets to his keynote speech at the Scottish Business Awards later in the evening.

John Prendergast, Not On Our Watch board member, said: “Not On Our Watch and our board member George Clooney hope to raise further awareness about the important impact charitable donations can have in making a difference in the world.”
