The Action for Children Scotland sports dinner has now pulled in over half a million pounds for the charity since it was first held

More than 400 sports fans helped raise over £90,000 for Action for Children Scotland at a sports dinner last week.

Iconic jockey Sir AP McCoy was the star attraction at the event, held in Glasgow’s Hilton Hotel, and he delighted guests with stories from his much celebrated career.

Hosted by sports presenter Peter Martin, guests also enjoyed a question and answer session with McCoy, who rode 4,358 winners and was Champion Jockey a record 20 consecutive times.

Other special guests in attendance at the dinner, which over the years has raised over £550,000 for the charity, were Rangers legends Ally McCoist and Mark Hateley, MSPs Humza Yousaf and Anas Sarwar and former Scottish Football Association chief executive Gordon Smith.

“It was a great honour to have AP McCoy join us for our sports dinner – giving fans the opportunity to hear a true sporting legend tell the story of a remarkable career,” Paul Carberry, director of children’s services at Action for Children Scotland, said.

“The sports dinner has now raised nearly £550k since it launched, helping Action for Children Scotland to support the country’s most disadvantaged children, young people and families through a variety of services. We are very grateful to the committee for its hard work and dedication in making the event the success that it is.”
