Third sector directors are being invited to apply for an awards ceremony that celebrates creative leadership

Third sector leaders have been invited to gain recognition at a national awards ceremony.

The Institute of Directors (IoD) Scotland Director of the Year Awards celebrate inspiring leadership across the country.

The awards will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Glasgow Central on Thursday 21 May.

Previous years have seen a strong representation of nominees from the third sector – with Celine Sinclair, chief executive of The Yard, winning the Director of the Year – Small Businesses award in 2018 and Roslyn Neely, of the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity (ECHC), named as the top third sector director last year.

Categories include Third Sector Director of the Year, sponsored by SCVO; Social Value and Sustainability Impact; and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. Applicants are encouraged to think about entering more than one category, and the applications process has been streamlined so as success can be evidenced with shorter responses.

An IoD spokesperson said: “The Institute of Directors’ philosophy is to support, represent and set standards for directors, encouraging entrepreneurial activity and promoting responsible business practice, so that we all become better leaders.

“Effective, dynamic, ambitious and creative leaders deserve recognition – their success is good for Scotland’s economy, its local communities and its future generations.

“Whether you are involved in media or manufacturing, e-commerce or the public or third sector, an entrepreneurial director of a start-up company or an NXD of a large corporation, why not share your success story?”

Entry for the awards is open until 24 February, with voluntary sector groups invited to apply. More information and application forms are available online.
