A new fund to boost community projects in former mining areas has been announced.

The Coalfields Enterprise Support Programme is open for applications until the end of January.

It is looking to support social entrepreneurs to overcome barriers to develop their business projects, with both new and existing ideas considered.

Funding is also available for organisations who are addressing skills development, employment and improving health and wellbeing.

Development manager Gary Porter said: “Our assessment team will identify up to five ideas which hold the greatest potential to develop their social enterprise and benefit former coalfield communities.

“Additionally, we will look at evidence of need, market for the social enterprise and the capacity of the organisation to deliver the work.”

Grants of up to £10,000 are available, and eligible projects must be located in a former coalfield community and able to commence by the end of March 2018. For more information contact Gary on 01259 272127 or email [email protected]
