Volunteers sought to help make event magical

Helpers are needed to help ensure this year's MoonWalk is a success, as walkers prepare for a midnight jaunt across Edinburgh

A cancer charity has issued a call for sparkling volunteers.

Walk the Walk will host its annual MoonWalk event in Edinburgh on Saturday 9 June.

And extra-special helpers are being sought to help create a magical evening, with this year’s event having a Holyrood to Hollywood theme.

From marshalling and helping in the baggage tent, to handing out water or being part of the cheer squad on the route – the charity is looking for people with all sorts of skills to get involved.

Ian Mycko, 62, from Edinburgh, has volunteered as a driver at the MoonWalk Scotland since it started in 2006.

“It’s my birthday on the Saturday of the MoonWalk and I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it,” he said.

“Like most people, I have had friends and family who have been affected by cancer. In a world where everyone seems to take, it is nice to be able to give something back.

“I used to be a taxi driver in Edinburgh, so I have good knowledge of the city. Volunteering gives me a huge feeling of satisfaction, and if my involvement has helped even just one person, then that is terrific.”

The MoonWalk Scotland will see thousands of walkers pounding the pavements through the streets of the capital city at midnight, wearing decorated bras, as they raise money and awareness to help fight breast cancer.

More information on volunteering and details of how to sign up are available on the Walk the Walk website.
