Scottish celebrities have backed a campaign which aims to help some of the poorest people in the world.

The Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund’s (SCIAF) Wee Box, Big Change appeal aims to raise thousands of pounds to overcome poverty, hunger, war and natural disasters in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Each Lent, people across Scotland give up a favourite treat such as coffee, chocolate, wine or crisps, put the money they save into a wee box, and then donate it to SCIAF at Easter.

Deacon Blue stars Ricky Ross and Lorraine McIntosh, actor Libby McArthur, broadcaster Kaye Adams and Aberdeen football ace Mark Reynolds have all backed this year’s appeal.

“It breaks my heart to think of children going to bed hungry at night and of families struggling to survive because they are so poor,” said McIntosh.

“I know SCIAF makes a real difference to so many people of all faiths – that’s why I’m supporting the Wee Box appeal again this year and encouraging everyone to join in.”
