Action for Children has unveiled its Woman of Influence award nominees.

Sarah Brown, Corinne Hutton, Yvonne Greaves and Sharon Moore have been shortlisted for the charity’s 19th annual awards ceremony.

Recognising  remarkable women in Scotland who have had an outstanding impact on society and are role models, the awards have become one of the most prestigious of their kind in the country.

Winners will be announced at a special event at the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow on 17 March hosted by TV presenter Jean Johansson.

Since 2001, the event has raised more than £1m to support the charity’s work across Scotland.

The charity has also announced that Megan Boss, a 17-year-old young carer from Coatbridge, will be recognised with the ‘Inspirational Young Woman’ award on the day. Megan has been supported by the charity’s North Lanarkshire Young Carers project.

Paul Carberry, director of Action for Children in Scotland, said: “The ‘Woman of Influence’ award recognises women who have made a real impact in Scotland and beyond. We believe that each of the nominees is an inspiration to the next generation of women in Scotland and are outstanding role models for the young women our projects work with.

“Not only is this event one of the most popular events on our fundraising calendar, it has also raised more than £1 million to support our work. This has made a huge difference to the lives of the disadvantaged children, families and young people who we support.

"My personal thanks go to everyone on the Woman of Influence board for their continued hard work in making this event the success it is each and every year.”

Eve Robertson, awards chair, said: “We are delighted to announce the nominees for this year’s Woman of Influence awards. Every year, the ‘Woman of Influence’ awards recognise remarkable women in Scotland and this year is no different.

“The entire board has been working incredibly hard this year to deliver this fantastic event and we are very much looking forward to a successful day raising funds to support the important work of Action for Children in Scotland.”
