DigiShift - Food for thought (digital tools for food projects)

From 14:00 to 15:30 on 25th August 2020

Online event

Cost: Free

This DigiShift is for organisations working on food projects.

With the glaring holes that lockdown has illuminated in our food system, now is the time that Scottish food projects are most needed. In this session we will look at how your organisation can deliver services digitally during lockdown and beyond. We will hear from speakers using digital tools to help you co-ordinate staff and volunteers, to nail your community engagement and to continue improving essential service delivery for your users. There will also be plenty of time for discussions and Q&A.

Our four speakers:

Laura Reilly, Manager, Belville Community Garden
Laura will talk about they have adapted the free “When I Work” app to manage volunteer roles and shifts across multiple sites to deliver their food box service.

Aidan McCartney, Volunteer Manager, Storehouse Belfast
Aidan will talk about how a volunteer helped them quickly build a digital platform to manage a new food parcel home delivery service during lockdown.

Iain Withers, Farmer, Linlithgow Farmily
Iain will talk about the Facebook group he set up at the start of lockdown to teach people to grow their own. This quickly evolved into a successful, supportive and connected community and has now grown into a social enterprise operating on a pay-what-you want basis, using WordPress plugin WooCommerce.

Andrew Tomlinson, trustee, The Welcome Centre, Huddersfield
Andrew will talk about how they have been using their existing data to improve the accuracy and efficiency of their work with food bank clients, to make earlier & tailored interventions before a crisis escalates.
