ELCAP, a leading social care charity serving East Lothian and Midlothian, has announced the appointment of a new chief executive. Paul White joins ELCAP from LinkLiving. Paul has wide experience across the public and third sectors. After graduating, he worked for an unemployed workers’ centre in Bathgate and then Citizens Advice Scotland before moving to Lothian Regional Council. Following local government reorganisation, Paul moved to West Lothian Council, where he helped to establish the Advice Shop before managing the council’s relationships with charities, community groups, social enterprises and voluntary organisations. On completion of an MBA at Napier University, Paul joined the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations, the national umbrella body for the third sector in Scotland, initially as director of networks and later as director of health and social care.

New trustees have been appointed to Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, joining the Board of Trustees. Their combined expertise includes government, finance, communications, law, education, property and architecture, covering public, private and not-for-profit sectors. The board is now as follows: David Blaikie (chair) - David is an award-winning architect, based in Stockbridge. As the current chair, he has brought years of guidance and leadership to help deliver the home’s mission. DoreenGraham(vice chair) - Doreen has an impressive career in third sector communications and PR with organisations including the Scottish SPCA and Health in Mind. Ian Muir OBE - Ian is a long-standing member of the home’s board. Not only has he forged an impressive career at Ferranti Edinburgh, but he has held many positions in the education sector, including being a director of the Association of Scottish Colleges. Crawford Geddes - Crawford started his property consultancy and property development company, Keiller Edinburgh Ltd in 2002. He cycled to Paris twice to raise funds for charity. Leanne Goold joined the board in August 2018 having first volunteered at the home while at school. Sue Stahly is a senior HR professional with extensive experience at strategic level gained within the drink and finance sectors. Catherine Brown is one of several communications team leaders in the Scottish Government. Peter Proud is the Founder and chief executive of Cortex Worldwide, which has a strategic partnership with Microsoft. Murray Stewartis a solicitor and notary public and is currently head of real estate at Gilson Gray LLP. Susan McKenzie joined the Scottish Wildlife Trust in July 2014 as its director of finance and resources. Prior to this, she spent 20 years working in the not-for-profit sector. She also volunteers with St Columba’s Hospice and Project Scotland. David Welsh joined the home’s trustees this year and is a Scottish barrister. Julie MacDonald is the senior fundraising manager at the Scottish Association for Mental Health and Sanjana Rae is governance and compliance manager with Wheatley Housing Group.

The National Autistic Society Scotland has announced the appointment of Nick Ward as its new national director. Nick was formally regional director at Teach First and brings with him more than 10 years’ experience of working in the education, charity and third sector. He is a graduate of Edinburgh University, has a Master of Arts (MA) in Leadership from UCL Institute of Education, and is the co-founder of Education Fellowship Scotland, an organisation which aims to support and enable teachers to be empowered, networked and high impact practitioners.
