A £2m grant fund will provide opportunities for 400 interns to help promote business growth within Scottish voluntary organisations

The Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) has opened a new European funded grants programme aimed at supporting growth across the third sector but in particular digital, creative and green industries.

The £2 million project will enable the third sector to take on 400 interns over the next 12 months, including 120 digital interns.

The interns, who must be qualified to at least HND level, will work on a projects that enables them to utilise their skills and qualifications and supporting the organisation to grow their business.

Donna Mackinnon, director of employment at SCVO, said the programme will support both the third sector in Scotland and young graduates.

She said: “Business Growth Grants are a fantastic opportunity for young people to gain valuable experience within third sector organisations while carrying out work to make organisations stronger and more sustainable.

“SCVO is delighted to have received funding from the European Regional Development Fund to run this programme, which will support 13-week paid internships or six-week paid digital internships to carry out projects that can ultimately help deliver more third sector services and jobs.”

The new programme is on top of existing internship programmes including Third Sector Internships Scotland and Creative Interns.

SCVO will advertise business growth internship opportunities through a range of channels including Jobcentres, Skills Development Scotland, Goodmoves, Third Sector Internship Scotland, the National Union of Students Scotland and careers services at colleges and universities.
