Scottish arts charity appoints new chair

She succeeds Paula Schutt who steps down after two years

Scottish charity Art in Healthcare (AiH) has appointed Hilary Burwell as its new chair.

She succeeds Paula Schutt who steps down after serving nearly two years in the role.

Hilary has been an AiH board member since 2022 and brings over 20 years of museum, collections and art management experience to the charity.

She has previously worked in management roles at a range of leading arts organisations including National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh International Film Festival and, most recently, the NatWest Group Art Collection.

For more than 30 years AiH has worked to improve health and wellbeing for individuals and communities through visual art within health, social care and community environments.

Vanessa Paynton, executive director of Art in Healthcare, said: “We’re delighted to announce Hilary Burwell as our new chair and I look forward to working closely with her in this new role. As a serving AiH board member, she has a real understanding of our organisational focus and brings a wealth of experience that will benefit the people and communities we serve.

“We would also like to thank Paula Schutt for her dedication and immense contribution as our chair for the past two years.”

Hilary said: “I have long been an admirer of Art in Healthcare and understand the impact their work has, bringing the restorative power of art and creativity to those who need it most. I am honoured to take up the role of chair and look forward to working with the inspirational board and team to help steer the course into the future.”
